Position Information Position Title Adjunct Chinese DLI Bridge Instructor Requisition Number A00107P Job Summary/Basic Function The Department of Foreign Languages at Weber State University seeks an instructor to teach upper-division Chinese Bridge Program courses at local high schools (Weber and Ogden School District), beginning August of 2021.
The course taught in the high schools is part of the Utah Dual Language Immersion Bridge Program, in which students who have participated in the dual immersion program since first grade, or who have an equivalent level of proficiency in Chinese, may take an upper-division university Chinese course in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades.
Under administrative direction from the program coordinator and department chairperson, the individual shall perform some or all of the following duties: 1.
Teach two to three Chinese Bridge Program course sections in Weber and Ogden School District’s high schools.
2.
Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
3.
Prepare instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
4.
Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms through using appropriate teaching methods.
5.
Evaluate instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing methods.
6.
Maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
7.
Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
Required Qualifications M.
A.
in Chinese or a related field.
At least two years of experience teaching Chinese.
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.
D.
(ABDs are also encouraged to apply), with experience teaching Chinese at the secondary and university levels, and with training in or knowledge of the ACTFL proficiency guidelines, the National Standards for Teaching Foreign Languages, and the use of classroom technology.
Ability to apply effectively general principles to specific conditions.
Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
Ability to work effectively with people.
Ability to travel to high schools.
Ability to work in a co-teaching environment.
